1Rebel co-founder, James Balfour, shares his thoughts on everything from the boutique chain’s global roll-out plans to its bold marketing style, in a new, in-depth interview with Health Club Management.
Having opened three new clubs in London in 2018 – Southbank in February, Bayswater in March and Victoria in June – to join its original two in the City of London, 1Rebel already has three sites in the pipeline for 2019, and more are not ruled out.
However, it isn’t only London expansion that 1Rebel has up its sleeve – we’re pleased to report that the company has also now appointed a CEO and management team in Australia. It plans to open its first club in either Sydney or Melbourne in the first half of this year.

James grew up immersed in the health/fitness world – he is the son of Mike Balfour OBE, founder of Fitness First gyms, which became the world’s largest fitness chain with 550 clubs in 21 different countries and 1.5 million members.
